I celebrated my 32nd anniversary of being a ham in March. As I look back it
was suggested that I list the things I have done in Amateur Radio in no
particular order. I received my Novice license from the FCC via the US
Postal Service on March 18, 1975 as WN3ZER. Later that year I upgraded to
General by going to the FCC building in Baltimore. I got my advanced
license in 1994 to be able to keep the 40 Meter transmitter on for shuttle
re-transmission and the decided to get my Extra in 1995.
I found the
Bi-centennial WAS net in March of 1976 (the predecessor to the 3905 CCN).
I went away to college for four years and was inactive for those years.
When I returned I found the 3905 CCN and was a net control operator 3
times a week in 1982 and 1983. I became a member of the Baltimore Amateur Radio Club where I held many
positions in the club including President, vice President and Treasurer. I
am currently the treasurer and building security chairman for the clubs meeting and
training facility where my wife, myself and a few club members found
secured and set up the entire building including the clubs radio room.
I was also the
General Chairman of the Greater Baltimore Hamboree and Computerfest for 20
years. The show became the 5th largest hamfest in the country in the mid
90's drawing over 20,000 people and having over 900 indoor table spaces 250
indoor tailgate spaces and 650 outdoor spaces. I am also a
consultant and help the General Chairman of the Rochester Hamfest for the past 15 years. I have
been a club representative to the Foundation for Amateur Radio for many
years and am currently the indoor vendor chairman for FARFest host to the
ARRL Maryland Section Convention.
I have also been a Space Shuttle re-transmission operator for the Goddard
Amateur Radio Club, I am an ARRL and Laural VE and am an ARRL field
card checker for the DXCC, WAS and VUCC awards. I attend many hamfests to
check cards including the Rochester hamfest in NY.
I was a past Emergency Coordinator for Baltimore County/City and am
currently an ARES member as long as a member of RACES for Baltimore
County. I am also a member of the West Manchester, PA RACES and am vice
president of the Hanover Area Hamming Association also known as HAHA.
I am currently the QSL manager for N3WD, KF3M, and W3FT as well as trustee for KF3M
. I also
participate in many contests throughout the year as well as enjoying HF
mobile.
